Emergency Services
Each year, nationwide, Red Cross paid staff and volunteers respond to more than 60,000 disasters, ranging from single-family house fires to events such as hurricanes, floods and tornadoes. The Red Cross helps hundres of thousands of their neighbors by providing shelter and other basic and emergency needs free of charge. In addition, Red Cross chapters are involved long before disasters occur, educating the community on how to stay safe should a disaster strike.
In Frederick County, volunteers and staff provide assistance on disaster scenes ranging from house fires to floods and large-scale disasters. Emergency Services volunteers train to provide quality service to those who have suffered a loss due to a disaster. Additionally, volunteers from the chapter respond with the National Red Cross to disasters throughout the country.
At parades, community events, churches, schools and other organizations, Emergency Services volunteers also provide information to the community on preparing for disasters.
