VOLUNTEER TODAY TO TEACH LIFE SAVING SKILLS

A great way to serve your community is to give of yourself as a volunteer instructor teaching vital lifesaving skills. If you've always wanted to utilize your natural leadership and instruction skills consider this. The classes available to teach would include Adult, Child or Infant CPR, First Aid, and Babysitter's Training plus a variety of others.

Would you rather work independently or hire a permanent trainer for your organization?  If so, an Authorized Provider (AP) may be right for you.  APs are American Red Cross instructors who may provide training for their own employees, volunteers, clients or members of the community.

As an AP, you can build your own training team to teach courses to other employees or members of your organization wherever and whenever you want. It's a cost-effective way to offer first aid, CPR, automated external defibrillation (AED) and other health and safety training in-house.

How to obtain a Duplicate Certificate

The American Red Cross is required to maintain training records for a minimum of five years.  You can request a duplicate certificate search by contacting the chapter at 301/662-5131.  The fee for the search is $5.00 for each certificate you are requesting us to search for.  The fee is for the search only; it does not guarantee that we will find proof of your training.  Frederick County Chapter only keeps training records for training that occurred in Frederick County, Maryland.  If you took your training somewhere other than Frederick County, you'll need to contact the local Red Cross Chapter to find out how to get a duplicate certificate.  Lifeguarding and Standard First Aid certificates are valid for three years from completion date; most lay responder level CPR/AED certificates are valid for one year from completion date (including CPR/AED for Lifeguards).  CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer/Healthcare Provider certificates are valid for two years from completion date.

Any person who violates this law is guilty of a misdemeanor and, on conviction is subject to a fine not exceeding $500 or imprisonment not exceeding 30 days, or both.

Public facilities are open to the general public and the staff of that public facility is responsible for assisting all customers using that building. Since staff is not responsible for babysitting children using the public facility, they are often unaware of children’s activities and circumstances.

A person who is charged with the care of a child under the age of 8 years may not allow the child to be locked or confined in a dwelling, building, enclosure or motor vehicle if it is out of the sight of the person charged unless the person charged provides a reliable person at least 13 years old to remain with the child to protect the child.
