Volunteers Still Making a Difference

Frederick County community responds to service personnel needs.

For more than four months the Frederick County Chapter has had volunteers helping sort and pack donations for the US service members deployed in Afghanistan and other locations around the world.  Citizens who work and live in Frederick County have generously made our troops feel a little closer to loved ones and home as they celebrate the holidays in different surrounding.  The chapter would like to thank all of those people who donated items for this effort which resulted in almost 150 boxes (40-60 lbs apiece) mailed from this office.  We've received several thank you letters from the troops and the following excerpt sums it up:

"Thank you so very much for the box of goodies.  The box was forwarded to us by our higher, higher, HIGHER headquarters and we are located in a remote part of Afghanistan, so the goodies are a delight.  Most especially important to us is knowing that people like you back at home care about us and remember us.  Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!"
